Onslaught is repainted and remolded from Protectobot Hot Spot.  He is so heavily remolded that he is barely recognizable as Hot Spot.  They even turned his vehicle around backwards.  You can read my Hot Spot review here.

Vehicle Mode: One of the things I loved about G1 Onslaught was the epic cannons he carried on his truck bed.  The cannons on this Onslaught are fairly under whelming.  It looks like a pile of parts with two small cannons stuck on the sides, which is exactly what it is.  This leads to a problem in robot mode.  Other than that, I like it.  They did an amazing job of remolding Hot Spot, though he still has Hot Spot’s light bank, which they really could have removed.

Robot Mode: In robot mode it becomes much more obvious that Onslaught and Hot Spot share their overall design.  I think they did a great job on Onslaught’s robot mode.  I love his head sculpt.  The one major problem is that he does not have the two cannons sticking up on his back.  You could put his guns there, but then he has no weapons.  This to me is a major flaw.  They should have included two sets of his guns.  This problem carries over to Bruticus as well.

Overall: He’s pretty great overall, but not having dedicated back guns really sucks.  Hopefully the Japanese version will correct that by including two sets of his guns.

About lmb3

I’m 36 years old, and I work in network tech support for a public school system. I am a huge fan of Star Trek, Transformers, Harry Potter, and Marvel Comics as well as numerous other fandoms. I’m a big sports fan, especially the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. I collect toys (mostly Transformers but other stuff too), comic books, and Red Sox baseball cards. I watch an obscene amount of television and love going to the movies. I am hopelessly addicted to Wizard Rock and I write Harry Potter Fanfiction, though these days I am working on a couple of different original YA novels.
