Transformers: San Diego Comic Con 2016 Titan Force (Brainstorm & Teslor, Sentinel Prime & Infinitus, Windblade)
Brainstorm & Teslor
When I first heard that Brainstorm was going to be remolded from Titans Return Blurr (read my review of Blurr here) I kind of understood why Hasbro decided not to do a whole new mold. They did just release a Headmaster Brainstorm not all that long ago. I am a little shocked at just how good he turned out. In robot mode Brainstorm is perfect. While his vehicle mode is a little sleeker in design than the G1, they did a really great job on it. I can’t really complain about anything. He is not in G1 colors here. A single release in G1 colors will be a Walgreens exclusive this fall.
Sentinel Prime & Infinitus
Read my original review of Sentinel Prime & Infinitus. This version is essentially the same except that all the gray and orange parts are translucent orange. I like translucent toys, but he makes my eyes burn.
Windblade
Vehicle Mode: I was shocked when I opened this toy. I assumed when I saw that this set included Windblade in Fortress Maximus colors (which makes no sense at all) that this was the crappy Generations Windblade mold. To my surprise, they used the new Robots in Disguise mold. Her vehicle mode looks fantastic. I love the design, and all the parts all clip together well, which is one of my major complaints about the original toy. The only slight problem is that the way her sheathed sword connected to the bottom of her vehicle mode, the entire jet rests on it. This means she can fall over if you look at her funny. They should have added landing gear that flipped down as far as the sheathe goes to stabilize her in vehicle mode.
Robot Mode: Windblade looks amazing in robot mode. I can’t wait to get her in RID colors. The mold looks amazing. I just don’t get the logic of painting her as Fortress Maximus. She looks great, but it makes no sense. This is the second year in a row we’ve had a Windblade toy at SDCC, a character whose only claim to fame is being idiotically shown to kill combiners.
Overall: I can’t think of a good reason to own this toy. We will get Windblade and Brainstorm in proper color schemes later, and while I like the translucent orange, it does nothing to really improve an otherwise forgettable Sentinel Prime. Definitely for completists only.
