Blog #284: Toy Review: Asia Exclusive Transformers Generations Leader Ironhide

At San Diego Comic Con it was revealed that the series of Asia only exclusive Generations toys (at least the Legends, Scouts, Deluxes, Voyagers) would be coming to Toys R Us this past fall.  I previously reviewed the Legends (Bluestreak, Hoist, Motorbreath, and Thundercracker), Deluxes (Cliffjumper, Springer, Swerve, and Wheelie), Scouts (Brawl, Dead End, Laserbeak, and Sandstorm), and Voyagers (Hot Spot, Megatron, and Powerdive).  It’s taken a while, but I’ve finally managed to get my hands on the two Leader class toys that will remain exclusive to Asia, Ironhide and Starscream.

Mold Used: Ironhide is repainted from Transformer Dark of the Moon Leader Ironhide with no mold changes.

Vehicle Mode: Leader Ironhide was one of the jewels of the Dark of the Moon line.  This is a straight repaint into G1 colors, even including the gold strip on the sides.

Robot Mode: The robot mode is impressive with pop out weapons on his arms.  One of the reasons I think this is the best movie Ironhide mold is that that it transforms far easier than the first movie and Revenge of the Fallen Voyager Ironhides.  I must admit, since they did mold changes or added accessories to the Legends, Deluxes, and Voyagers, I would have liked to see them do a G1 head for this.

Overall: It’s a shame that this isn’t coming over here as a TRU exclusive.  Leader class toys were apparently not selling well and were cut back on after Revenge of the Fallen but as this is a G1 homage of a major character, I think it would have sold well.  Is it worth the import price?  I guess it depends on how much you like Ironhide, but I think it is.

I’m a big sports fan, especially the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. I collect toys (mostly Transformers but other stuff too), comic books, and Red Sox baseball cards. I watch an obscene amount of television and love going to the movies. I am hopelessly addicted to Wizard Rock and I write Harry Potter Fanfiction, though these days I am working on a couple of different original YA novels.
