Transformers: Rescue Bots and Rescue Bots Academy Rescan Series 4-Pack (Hoist, Hot Shot, Wedge, Whirl)
Hoist
Previous Mold Use: Original Series Hoist, Original Series Amazon Exclusive Optimus Prime, Rescan Series Hoist
So this mold has gone through quite a few iterations. The original version of Hoist and it’s remold as Amazon Exclusive Optimus Prime was then downsized and completely remolded into Rescan Series Hoist. Now it’s been significantly remolded again into Rescue Bots Academy Hoist. He’s now a flat bed truck rather than a tow truck. The remolding is extensive. He now has two sets of rear wheels under the bed and a new grill and bumper. The cab and robot made have also been completely remolded. They gave him a great paintjob.
Hot Shot
Previous Mold Use: Rock Rescue Team Bumblebee, Rescan Series Bumblebee
The first Rescue Bots Academy Hot Shot was a larger electronic figure and was an upsized version of the Rock Rescue Bumblebee mold, so this is basically a downsized version of that with no electronics. It’s not a bad looking toy, but the way his arms connect to his body at the waist just looks weird.
Wedge
Previous Mold Use: Rescan Series Salvage
Much like Hoist, Wedge’s arms also connect at the waist. It’s otherwise a nice looking figure, and his vehicle mode looks great.
Whirl
Previous Mold Use: Rescan Series Bumblebee, Rescan Series Blades
Whirl got a great new paintjob. And a new head sculpt.
Overall: These toys are fine, but I really don’t get this. The cartoon makes it clear that only Hot Shot has the ability to have multiple forms. Why? If they are going to keep doing different versions of the same characters, then why not put that in the cartoon? I just don’t get it. I don’t think Hasbro does either, they are just making it up as they go along.
