Transformers: Masterpiece Ultra Magnus

As with previous Masterpiece releases, Ultra Magnus has a coin available.

Spike and Daniel

This is a very cool addition.  Spike and Daniel may not be super detailed, but they are the right scale to sit in Ultra Magnus’s cab.

Ultra Magnus includes a second set of unarticulated fists that allow him to hold the Matrix that comes with MP-10 Optimus Prime.  I’ve included the picture from the Instruction book as I could not put my hands on the Matrix for a picture.

Vehicle Mode: Oh.  My.  God.  Ultra Magnus is amazing.  One thing to note, you can reposition his missiles so they are on the front instead of the sides.  Now, if I’m going to be picky, I would have preferred that he have a silver chrome front bumper instead of red, and would have liked some better connectors to hold the upper level to the back of the trailer.  Other than that, there is literally nothing to complain about.  His cab is connected to the trailer, but in a lot of ways he still transforms like the original.

Robot Mode: His robot mode is perfect.  I did not realize this until after I took the pictures, but his ankles will bend so he can be stood up straight with his feet together, which is awesome.  You can remove the front of his head so you can put in a second face with him screaming.  As you can see, under the face they molded a second white Optimus Prime face like the G1 toy (sort of).  He’s got a lot of articulation, but not too much.  You can put Optimus Prime’s Matrix in his chest.  His chest even opens much like it does in Transformers: The Movie.  He’s amazing.

Overall: The best toy of 2014, hands down.  This one is a must.

Thanks for reading!

I’m 36 years old, and I work in network tech support for a public school system. I am a huge fan of Star Trek, Transformers, Harry Potter, and Marvel Comics as well as numerous other fandoms. I’m a big sports fan, especially the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. I collect toys (mostly Transformers but other stuff too), comic books, and Red Sox baseball cards. I watch an obscene amount of television and love going to the movies. I am hopelessly addicted to Wizard Rock and I write Harry Potter Fanfiction, though these days I am working on a couple of different original YA novels.

Fun fact, Magnus’ cab can detach from the trailer! There’s a button underneath it, between the rear wheels. Sadly, Optimus and Magnus’ cabs aren’t interchangeable.
