You might want to check out my first blog about Bot Shots. My overall opinions on the line have not changed.
The Bot Shots online game is now playable at http://www.bot-shots.com.
The Good: The animation in the game is pretty cool, as is the “Bot Shop” where you can purchase additional playable characters with points earned by buying the toys and by winning games. You can play single or multiplayer games, as well as “Adventure” games where you play through a story (I believe, I’ve only played single player). You can also customize your own avatar and buy special upgrades with points. Your avatar will appear on the worldwide leader boards. All this is pretty cool, considering the base concept is so totally lame.
The Bad: The game play is a joke. When you play with the actual toys, before you roll your cars into each other, you select whether you want to use gun, fist, or sword. In the online version, the symbols flash up randomly on a grid and you need to select two like symbols to play it. Why you can’t just pick which one you want is beyond me.
As I said when I first got the toys, it’s a stupid concept. It takes very little to entertain me, and I was bored with the awful game play after three games. I would be curious to know if the sales figures on these are as strong as Hasbro had hoped. I really can’t imagine they are, but I could be wrong.
As to the wave 3 toys (pictures below) Jetfire and Megatron are nicely designed, though I’d like to see a full color version of the Megatron. Lockdown is nice too. Thundercracker is just a Starscream repaint. They did a nice job adding weapons onto the basic car mold for Topspin.
