In a previous blog, I talked about some Dark of the Moon toys that have been canceled in the United States. In the last week or so, ebay has been flooded with what appear to be USA carded Deluxe Soundwaves (though no Wheeljack or Leadfoot). I picked one up and found that it is actually an Australian release. Australian releases seem to use identical toys and backer cards to the USA versions. The Australian trademark information shows up only on the bubble insert only. What’s interesting is that this has a sticker that partially obscures the Australian trademark.
The English text on the sticker says “HASBRO FAR EAST LTD. RM 1308 WORLD COMMERCE CENTRE HARBOUR CITY TSIMSHATSUI KOWLOON, HONG KONG.” The rest is in Chinese (or some similar language). So, what I’m not sure what to make of this. Was this an Australian toy that they rerouted and labeled for sale in China when they decided not to release it in Australia? Or is this some kind of import label because it was purchased outside China for sale there? I don’t know, and it probably doesn’t matter.
On to the toy!
Robot Mode: They did a nice job on this one. My only real complaint is that the car top doesn’t fold up better on his back. The way it hangs down, it’s hard to really make him stand up straight. His head is silver while the rest is gray. Would have liked to see him all in silver. His MecTech weapon is new, and changes from a gun into a an “Interceptor Dish”.
Vehicle Mode: Not bad, but would look so much better in silver. The side panel between the front wheels and the door doesn’t really click into place, so it’s kind of hard to keep solidly together. This particular toy highlights a problem with some MecTech weapons. Most can’t be locked, you press the switch and then it snaps back into place. This one really should have had a lock on it so it could stay in the “deployed” position.
It is odd that Soundwave has shown up, but Wheeljack has not. Wheeljack is on the cross sell and was scheduled to be in the next wave with Soundwave. Not a single one on ebay that I’ve seen. The Japanese one seems to be the only version, but that could change. Three weeks ago, we hadn’t seen a USA Soundwave.
