Here are my previous reviews of the 2011 and 2012 Kre-O sets, Micro-Changers Preview and First Series, and the Toys R Us exclusive Ironhide. Here are links to the newest Kre-O toy reviews, Beast Blade Optimus Prime, Battle Net Bumblebee, Dragon Assault, Mech Venom Strike, and Ripclaw Strike.
Transformers Kre-O Battle Net Bumblebee
Dragon: The dragon has no name, as Hasbro didn’t bother take the time to give him one. He is the best beast in the line that I’ve seen, but I don’t have the Ripclaw Strike set yet, and he will actually transform. This one is nice though. I really like the wings, they are just rigid enough not to droop, but I wonder if over time they will start to sag.
Kreons: The Bumblebee Kreon is nice, but I wish they had made him a Micro-Changer. The package calls his human partner “Captain”. I‘d really like it if they would at least give the toys proper names.
Vehicle Mode: They made Bumblebee a jeep. Yes, you read that correctly, a jeep. I don’t have a huge problem with it, I’m just not sure why. There are endless characters who were jeeps they could have used. In any case, his jeep mode is really nice. I’m not a huge fan of the “Battle Net”. It doesn’t launch very well, and there is no where to store it accept to roll it up under the projectiles. It would have been better without the net and just having it be a missile launcher.
Robot Mode: Same problem with the net in robot mode as in vehicle mode. Nice head sculpt. The main issue is how far his head is above his shoulders, but Hasbro’s design team seems to be unable to not design them this way.
Overall: Each round of Kre-O toys has gone down in size and number of sets (though at Toyfair the literature claimed there would be 8 sets, and they have only released 5, so there may be a few more coming). With the announcement of the new Construct-Bots coming this summer (think Lego Hero Factory) it seems that the Kre-O line (for Transformers at least) is coming to an end. The only other upcoming toys are the Micro-Change combiners. Four of them are trickling out, though I haven’t found them. The Toyfair literature lists seven of those, so we should be getting three more. My guess is that will be it for Kre-O Transformers, but we’ll have to wait and see.
Thanks for reading!
