Transformers: Retro: 40th Anniversary Soundwave, Laserbeak, and Ravage
The box has a flap and a window. Praise Primus! The box is a work of art unto itself. They have discontinued the Transformers: The Movie trade dress for a more G1 40th Anniversary theme. It looks great, and even with the box change they are continuing making the toys as animation accurate as possible.
Laserbeak
Previous Mold Review: Walmart Exclusive Vintage G1 Reissue Laserbeak
Laserbeak has been completely repainted to be accurate to the G1 animation. His weapons are now metallic silver instead of chrome, and the designs on his wings look great.
Previous Mold Review: Walmart Exclusive Vintage G1 Reissue Ravage
Ravage is now G1 animation accurate with gray legs and metallic silver weapons. He also has a gray circle with Decepticon log in it on his shoulder.
Soundwave
Previous Mold Reviews: Walmart Exclusive Vintage G1 Reissue Soundwave
Soundwave is also G1 animation accurate, and the most startling thing is to see this mold without the chrome, because he’s been reissued, by my count, six times. The buttons still seem to be the ones from the Soundblaster mold. Seems pretty clear the original buttons mold does not exist anymore or they would have used it by now. His cassette door is bordered in yellow rather than gold chrome. Maybe my favorite thing about him is the red paint on the missile tips in his shoulder gun.
Overall: It has been a while (at least five years I believe) since the last release of Soundwave, Laserbeak, and Ravage, so if you’re a new fan who doesn’t have them, then this set is a must. If you already have the molds, I think they are still a must have, but maybe that’s just the completist in me.
