Blog #2797: Toy Review: Transformers: Retro: 40th Anniversary Blaster and Steeljaw

Transformers: Retro: 40th Anniversary Blaster and Steeljaw

The box has a flap and a window. Praise Primus! The box is a work of art unto itself. They have discontinued the Transformers: The Movie trade dress for a more G1 40th Anniversary theme. It looks great, and even with the box change they are continuing making the toys as animation accurate as possible.

Steeljaw

Previous Mold Review: Platinum Edition Steeljaw

Steeljaw now sports a cartoon accurate paint job, replacing all his G1 stickers with new paint apps. His guns are now metallic gold instead of gold chrome.

Blaster

Previous Mold Reviews: Platinum Edition Blaster, Walmart Exclusive Vintage G1 Reissue Blaster

Blaster also is now cartoon accurate, having his stickers replaced with simpler paint apps and a non reflective Autobot logo on his chest. The biggest change is that his tan plastic is not gray, which looks great.

Overall: Blaster was last released at Walmart in 2020 and Steeljaw in the in the Platinum Edition set in 2015, so if you’re a new fan who doesn’t have them, they are a must have. If you already have the molds, I think they are still a must have, but maybe that’s just the completist in me.

Thanks for reading!

About lmb3

I’m 36 years old, and I work in network tech support for a public school system. I am a huge fan of Star Trek, Transformers, Harry Potter, and Marvel Comics as well as numerous other fandoms. I’m a big sports fan, especially the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. I collect toys (mostly Transformers but other stuff too), comic books, and Red Sox baseball cards. I watch an obscene amount of television and love going to the movies. I am hopelessly addicted to Wizard Rock and I write Harry Potter Fanfiction, though these days I am working on a couple of different original YA novels.
