Transformers: Studio Series Deluxe Bumblebee
Comparison photos are with the Transformers Tribute Evolution of Bumblebee version of the edition of the 2007 Transformers movie deluxe Bumblebee 1976 Camaro. It is a completely different mold from the new toy, but is the only other Bumblebee to use the 1976 Camaro vehicle mode. You can read my review of the Transformers Tribute Evolution of Bumblebee 3-pack here.
Bumblebee
Vehicle Mode: Bumblebee looks awesome in his 1976 Camaro mode. Is it better than the 2007 Transformers movie toy? That’s a complicated question. The new version has a lot more visible seams on the outside of the vehicle, while the original was much cleaner looking. The original is probably aesthetically better for that reason. Having said that, I really love the new toy. I kind of wish he had the translucent blue windows like the original Takara version did, but this is more true to how he looked in the 2007 movie so I can’t complain. Hopefully at some point we will get a battle damaged repaint of this toy.
Robot Mode: While the 2007 version might be better aesthetically in vehicle mode, robot mode is a different story. The 2007 toy looked awful in robot mode, but the new version looks incredible. I love his robot mode. He has actual feet instead of car fenders and actually looks like Bumblebee in robot mode.
Overall: Bumblebee is an absolute must. The Studio Series is off to a great start, but I have to wonder where these great toys were when we were getting mostly rehashed crap in The Last Knight line. If they had put this much effort into that line, it wouldn’t have been such a disappointment.
