Transformers: The Last Knight Deluxe Bumblebee (New Mold)
Transformers: The Last Knight Toy Reviews
Bumblebee
Vehicle Mode: I really like the new Bumblebee. The paint job is great. He’s got painted taillights, his rear window is clear, as opposed to unpainted as it usually is. The toy really looks great, but there are a few issues. The lack of painted hubcaps is not the end of the world, but it would look better with them painted silver. The color matching between the yellow plastic and yellow paint isn’t great, but it is not as bad as it has been on some past toys.
Bumblebee does have one design flaw. The sides of his rear windows do not stay in place properly. As you can see in the photo above, the frame sticks up above the window. It is entirely possible that I have done something incorrect in his transformation, but I spent over an hour trying to get it to all fit in place properly and watched several review videos, and this is as good as it gets. The sides are pegged in, they just don’t seem to be shaped correctly to match the angle of the window. This is certainly not a fatal flaw, but is something that really should have been addressed in the design process.
Robot Mode: In robot mode Bumblebee looks great. I love the head sculpt and he has very good paint apps. I am not crazy about the gray torso. At least some of that should have been yellow and black. I am not crazy about his weapon. You have to remove his arm to put his weapon in place of it. A weapon clipped on by closing around his hand would have been better.
Overall: This is a great Bumblebee mold. It is unfortunate that Hasbro chose to save the better toys in the line to release in the later waves that may not ever seen wide release at retail. I have yet to see a single Wave 2 Deluxe in a brick and mortar store. In fact, I keep seeing more Wave 1 show up in stores. I have only once seen Voyager Wave 2 in stores, though I am starting to see Wave 3 all over. Maybe if they stopped making crappy repaints in the early waves, they could actually get the new toys into stores.
