Transformers Artifact of the Week: Botcon 2009 First Issue Sticker

tf-05288

I came upon this while working on an major update to TFMuseum.com, and thought it would make a good blog.  These stickers were given out with each Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen toy sold at Botcon 2009 by Fun Publications to note that it was the First Issue of the toys.  As the stickers were given out to buyers rather than pre-applied to the toys, the value of toys bearing this sticker beyond the value of an un-stickered toy is, in my opinion, highly dubious.  Just because the sticker is present on a toy does not mean that toy was purchased at Botcon 2009, and I have seen many toys for sale with the stickers that were not available for sale that day.

This has got to be one of the stupidest things Fun Publications ever did, and that’s really saying something.  I’ve long believed that Fun Publications practice of selling generally available merchandise (not exclusives) before the dealer room opens at Botcon is unfair to dealers who have brought the same merchandise, and another example of their unending greed.  To compound that by claiming them to be “First Issue Toys” and then negating that having any meaning by not applying the stickers to the toys before selling them was one of the most disgusting things they have ever done (and that’s really saying something).

Thanks for reading!

About lmb3

I’m 36 years old, and I work in network tech support for a public school system. I am a huge fan of Star Trek, Transformers, Harry Potter, and Marvel Comics as well as numerous other fandoms. I’m a big sports fan, especially the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. I collect toys (mostly Transformers but other stuff too), comic books, and Red Sox baseball cards. I watch an obscene amount of television and love going to the movies. I am hopelessly addicted to Wizard Rock and I write Harry Potter Fanfiction, though these days I am working on a couple of different original YA novels.
