Age of the Samurai Optimus Prime

Vehicle Mode: Now that’s what I call some grade A bullshit. Okay, not really, but it had to be said. Optimus Prime transforms into an ancient Chinese wagon and bull. He’s got a fair amount of detail, though I wish he were more realistically colored (though that would mess up his robot mode of course). He’s different to say the least. I honestly don’t know if I like it or hate it, but it is one of the most unique alt modes of any Transformer ever. (I do have to wonder how this was not released as part of a Red Bull promotion.)

Robot Mode: In robot mode, they seem to have struck a good balance between him looking like a Samurai and looking like Optimus Prime. Though I must question why he would have the typical chest windows and grill since he transforms into a bull and cart. I do like his head sculpt.

Age of the Samurai Starscream

Beast Mode: Starscream transforms into an eagle. His eagle mode is pretty cool.

Robot Mode: In robot mode I like that they gave Starscream his traditional arm cannons in an ancient Chinese design. I don’t love his head sculpt. You can barely see his face under his bird head helmet. Colors and paint apps are decent.

Overall: I don’t hate them. But as there is no animation to make me care about whey Optimus Prime and Starscream are in ancient China, I have no reason to care about them. They are cool enough. You won’t be unhappy with them in you like the idea of them, but if you don’t, it’s an easy skip.
