Blog #1999: Toy Review: Transformers: Kingdom: Buzzworthy Bumblebee Core Class Bumblebee & Spike Witwicky

Transformers: Earthrise: Buzzworthy Bumblebee Core Class Bumblebee & Spike Witwicky

Spike Witwicky

There is very little to this toy. But, it works well enough as Spike’s exosuit, or at least it would if he actually had a face. Really Hasbro? You couldn’t give him a clear plastic dome over an actual head? The silver face looks creepy. As far as I know there are still no photos of the upcoming Studio Series Leader Class TFTM Slag with Daniel. I have a feeling they will just use this as Daniel with no changes.

Bumblebee

I think the obvious question that must be asked is, why is Bumblebee not a VW Beetle? I’ve heard that the contract with Volkswagen only allows them to make Bumblebee toys as a VW Beetle. This is why Selects Bug Bite used the Cliffjumper body with the Bumblebee head. Anyway, though it isn’t a classic G1 Bumblebee, I do really like the design. They mostly painted his windows, but the triangular rear side windows aren’t painted. They also failed to paint his taillights. He looks great in robot mode, though I’m not crazy about the fenders behind his arms. I wish they could have folded flat to his back.

Overall: I really like Bumblebee. Most likely we will get Bumblebee on his own in Kingdom packaging so if you don’t care about Spike, you can wait for that one.

I’m 36 years old, and I work in network tech support for a public school system. I am a huge fan of Star Trek, Transformers, Harry Potter, and Marvel Comics as well as numerous other fandoms. I’m a big sports fan, especially the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. I collect toys (mostly Transformers but other stuff too), comic books, and Red Sox baseball cards. I watch an obscene amount of television and love going to the movies. I am hopelessly addicted to Wizard Rock and I write Harry Potter Fanfiction, though these days I am working on a couple of different original YA novels.
