Transformers: Generations: Siege Leader Class Shockwave

Shockwave

Vehicle Mode: I don’t know what Shockwave’s smaller vehicle mode is supposed to be. Space ship, submarine. Whatever it is, it’s anything but the laser gun it’s meant to be. It’s fine, about what you’d expect when turning Shockwave’s gun mode upside down. When you add on his additional pieces, then he really becomes a pretty cool space ship. I like the design. The dark purple, silver, and gray is appropriate for the character, but as a space ship, he really could have used a few more silver paint apps to give him some color. Traditionally the muzzle of Shockwave’s gun barrel is gray or silver. I think I would have preferred that to making it purple.

Robot Mode: Shockwave’s smaller robot mode is absolutely awesome. It’s an awesome design. I don’t hate his larger robot mode, but he has four arms. Really, Hasbro? Couldn’t you have given him extra guns without adding silly looking extra arms?

Overall: Shockwave is a really good toy, but I wouldn’t say great. His “I’m anything but a laser gun even though I’m obviously a laser gun” thing with his alternate mode is getting really annoying. For Megatron, Hasbro has gone to making him a tank most of the time. That’s fine. Why they don’t just pick a new alternate mode for Shockwave and stick to that I don’t know.

I’m 36 years old, and I work in network tech support for a public school system. I am a huge fan of Star Trek, Transformers, Harry Potter, and Marvel Comics as well as numerous other fandoms. I’m a big sports fan, especially the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. I collect toys (mostly Transformers but other stuff too), comic books, and Red Sox baseball cards. I watch an obscene amount of television and love going to the movies. I am hopelessly addicted to Wizard Rock and I write Harry Potter Fanfiction, though these days I am working on a couple of different original YA novels.
