Transformers: Walmart Exclusive Vintage G1 Reissue Optimus prime
Optimus Prime
The legend returns. G1 Optimus Prime with long smokestacks for the first time since Generation Two. He is perhaps among the most iconic toys of the 1980s, if not of all time. (Okay, I’m a little biased.) Unfortunately, the great Optimus Prime is beginning to show his age, or at least his mold is. There seems to be a molding issue with him, or at least with mine. When put in robot mode he stands up fine, but if I pick him up off the surface, one of his legs will snap up into the vehicle mode position if I just barely shake him. I am 90% sure this is mold degradation. Hopefully Takara still has an original master mold. It would be tragic if this toy were never seen again, that future generations might not know the joy of owning a minty fresh out of the box G1 Optimus Prime. (I may have something in my eye.) Unfortunately, Hasbro did not include his trailer this time, and bumped the price to a bat-shit crazy mind blowing $50. Every Walmart I’ve seen him at has put them on the bottom shelf. I suspect that is to make everyone bend over for this toy, since we’re really being bent over for this toy. Still, if you don’t have one, get one. Even if you have another version, get this one. If nothing else, it is a unique presentation for G1 Optimus Prime in a roughly Autobot Car size box, and it has a box flap. I love G1 box flaps.
