Transformers Masterpiece Optimus Prime 2017 (USA Version)
Do you ever wonder what Hasbro is thinking? They have released Masterpiece Grimlock, Starscream, and now Optimus Prime twice each in the USA (three times for Optimus Prime if you include the Year of the Horse version), while the vast majority of Masterpiece toys are never going to see USA release. The ones they do release they price as high as the imports and then they end up on clearance. I seriously wonder if the people making these decisions have any idea what they are doing.
This version is numbered MP-10 like the original Japanese version of this mold, but they have yet to release an MP-9 in the USA. Logical, isn’t it?
There are a few differences between this Optimus Prime and the previous USA release. The translucent plastic on his waist and gray plastic of his thighs are brighter yellow and gray. His blue is a shade darker, barely noticeable unless they are side by side. Spike has brighter yellow on his boots. The inside of his trailer is painted silver on each side like the original Japanese version. Lastly, if you read my review of the original USA release of this mold, you may recall this change.
On the first USA version, Hasbro screwed up the paint of his fenders. There is a silver triangle that was properly painted red on the Japanese version. Additionally, the Japanese version outlined his fender in silver, while the USA version didn’t.
The 2017 version still doesn’t have the triangle painted red. Also, the silver is applied sloppily, so you can see it around the edges of his fenders, but they still didn’t outline them like the Japanese version.
This is all I noticed for changes. There could be more.
Overall: For completists only.
