Transformers: Generations: Combiner Wars Leader Ultra Magnus with Minimus Ambus

Minimus Ambus

If any toy ever deserved to be called minimus, it’s Minimus Ambus.  He is a creation of IDW (Immensely Degrading to Well-loved-characters).  Apparently, they decided that Ultra Magnus died and is now a mech suit for Minimus Ambus.  It’s crap like this that makes me really hate IDW.  There is no need to destroy fan favorite characters.  If you want a character with a mech suit, then create one.  Being original is not shredding a classic character, it’s creating one.  This is just a sad little joke.  At least in Japan they recognize this and painted this thing into Alpha Trion.  I might have to pick that one up.  At least Alpha Trion is a character that matters. Minimus Ambus can be placed inside Ultra Magnus’s cab/chest in both modes if you choose.  I do not.

Hammer

Ultra Magnus’s two guns and shoulder missiles can be combined into a hammer accessory.  I’m kind of over the whole Ultra Magnus carries a hammer thing.  It was interesting for a while, but frankly, it has nothing to do with G1, and really shouldn’t be included in a G1 toy.  Of course, the worst part is that it looks silly with the red and white.

Vehicle Mode: Ultra Magnus’s trailer is amazing.  I wouldn’t change a thing, accept to make his missile pods a little smaller, since they made it enormous just so it could be used for the hammer head.  I like the look of his cab, but I wonder if they really had to make him look like a bulldog.  Look at it, you’d swear they were using a bulldog as the model.  It doesn’t look odd, but I would prefer it to be a little squarer.

Robot Mode: Ultra Magnus looks amazing in robot mode.  I honestly can’t imagine anything I’d change about him, except for the aforementioned enormous missile pods.  He’s a near perfect G1 Ultra Magnus.

Overall: This one is a must.  My suggestion is to buy it, feed Minimus Ambus to a dog, and forget that joke even exists.  While I can’t not be annoyed that it exists, even it can’t ruin such a great looking toy.
