Vehicle Mode: Ultra Magnus has been repainted from Optimus Prime.  The only mold change I can find is that he has a new head.  He has a really nice paint job, and it seems more paint apps than Optimus Prime did.  Note the painted silver tips of the exhaust ports.  You’ll also note that his sword can attach to the side of the vehicle.  The port that it connects to is present on Optimus Prime.  This makes me wonder if the sword was an afterthought or always planned to come with Ultra Magnus.  It brings up the question, why didn’t they include it with Optimus Prime?  There is a third party sword available for this toy.  Could it be that someone at Hasbro finally realized that the reason that third party toys are so prevalent is because they aren’t meeting the demands of fans and collectors?  (Who am I kidding?  They aren’t that smart.)

Robot Mode: The new head sculpt is really nice, and he looks really good holding the sword.  I think this mold looks a lot better as Ultra Magnus than as Optimus Prime.

About lmb3

I’m 36 years old, and I work in network tech support for a public school system. I am a huge fan of Star Trek, Transformers, Harry Potter, and Marvel Comics as well as numerous other fandoms. I’m a big sports fan, especially the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. I collect toys (mostly Transformers but other stuff too), comic books, and Red Sox baseball cards. I watch an obscene amount of television and love going to the movies. I am hopelessly addicted to Wizard Rock and I write Harry Potter Fanfiction, though these days I am working on a couple of different original YA novels.
