Blog #179: Toy Review: Transformers: Prime Cyberverse Commander Nightwatch Optimus Prime

The long overdue second wave of Transformers: Prime Cyberverse Commanders finally is hitting store shelves.  It includes, Nightwatch Optimus Prime, Ironhide, Ultra Magnus, and Dreadwing.

Transformers: Prime Cyberverse Commander Nightwatch Optimus Prime

Nightwatch Optimus Prime is a repaint/remold of Cyberverse Commander Optimus Prime.  You can read my review of the original toy here.

Overall: This toy is not much of a repaint.  I would have missed it completely while going through the pegs if it didn’t say “Nightwatch” on the package.  The first “Nightwatch” Optimus Prime was for the 2007 movie and set a standard of a blue, gray, and black color scheme.  They elected to use the name with a completely different color scheme that really isn’t all that different than the original color scheme of this toy.  They did give him new weapons, two swords, which look silly on the cab roof.  They also remolded his face so it has a mouth.  They didn’t do a very good job of that.  The head just doesn’t look right.  This one is an all around dud.

Thanks for reading!

About lmb3

I’m 36 years old, and I work in network tech support for a public school system. I am a huge fan of Star Trek, Transformers, Harry Potter, and Marvel Comics as well as numerous other fandoms. I’m a big sports fan, especially the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. I collect toys (mostly Transformers but other stuff too), comic books, and Red Sox baseball cards. I watch an obscene amount of television and love going to the movies. I am hopelessly addicted to Wizard Rock and I write Harry Potter Fanfiction, though these days I am working on a couple of different original YA novels.
