Transformers Missing Link Ultra Magnus
Accessories
Ultra Magnus comes with a figure with very little detail. His chest now has wheels like the original Diaclone toy
Deerstalker
Deerstalker is based on the buggy that came with the Diaclone toy. He’s fine. He has a lot of fairly think plastic pieces that take a lot of torque while transforming him. I think he might break, or at least start taking stress marks with repeated transformations. Also a little annoyed that his Autobot logos were not painted on. I had to use stickers from the sheet, the only stickers I had to use from it.
Ultra Magnus
Vehicle Mode: Ultra Magnus looks great in vehicle mode. He is essentially the same as the original toy, but now has ports on the sides of his trailer that his missile pods can be plugged into.
Cab Robot Mode: Optimus Prime is now in white. Details are all beautifully painted. There has been some remolding to his legs to allow his feet to fold up in combined mode.
Robot Mode: In robot mode Ultra Magnus’s hands are now built in and have a hinge at the knuckle. His missile pods have been redesigned with rotating bar with the peg on it so that his missiles sit at the same level, rather than one higher than the other on the original toy. He has all the articulation you would expect. He has two crotch plates. I assumed one was animation vs. toy, but apparently, one allows for better range of motion. I did not take a picture of him from the back, but there are quite a few new parts to secure the cab and allow for articulation. His chest also flips down so you can open the cab chest and get to the Matrix. I don’t know what the issue is, but the Matrix does not fit snugly in his chest. It falls right out if you tip him forward with the door open. I had to put him on an incline just to get the picture. I don’t recall this with Optimus Prime, but maybe I’ve forgotten. The one glaring screw up with this toy is the Autobot logo on his abdomen. They painted it on the cross pattern plastic rather than making a flat area to properly take the paint. That looks like shit. It’s a obvious failure. I can’t imaging how they did not address something so simple as flattening that. Missing Link Optimus Prime finally removed the rivets on his shoulder so his Autobot logs could be put on properly. I cannot fathom how they did not fix that. This is a new mold. There was no reason not to do it right.
Overall: It’s a beautiful toy, but way overpriced. This is not Sunstreaker or Arcee, where we were getting something we had not seen in a long time or ever. Like Optimus Prime, this is a nice one, but by no means a revelation.
