Blog #2951: Toy Review: Mechanic Toys Iron Sky (Transformers G1 Astrotrain)

Mechanic Toys Iron Sky (Transformers G1 Astrotrain)

Astrotrain

Steam Engine Mode: Mechanic Toys Astrotrain is Legends scale, and somehow they managed to give him a vastly superior steam engine mode to Hasbro’s Siege Leader Class Astrotrain, whose steam engine mode can best be described as hot garbage. He really looks great. I love the dark silver paint on his drive rods. Could have used a few more paint apps, but at this scale, that might be asking a lot.

Space Shuttle Mode: Astrotrain looks great in space shuttle mode. I love the purple striping on his wings and the translucent yellow plastic windshield looks great. I don’t love that the back half of the shuttle has a unfinished look to it, like panels are missing, but I’ve seen far worse. He looks better with his guns on him.

Robot Mode: I wouldn’t have minded a few more paint apps, but other than that Astrotrain looks awesome in robot mode.

Overall: Astrotrain can be had for around $30, even less if you shop around. At that price, he is a must have, since it seems unlikely Hasbro will ever give us one that does not suck in steam engine mode.

Thanks for reading!

About lmb3

I’m 36 years old, and I work in network tech support for a public school system. I am a huge fan of Star Trek, Transformers, Harry Potter, and Marvel Comics as well as numerous other fandoms. I’m a big sports fan, especially the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. I collect toys (mostly Transformers but other stuff too), comic books, and Red Sox baseball cards. I watch an obscene amount of television and love going to the movies. I am hopelessly addicted to Wizard Rock and I write Harry Potter Fanfiction, though these days I am working on a couple of different original YA novels.
