Blog #2301: Toy Review: Transformers Generations Leader Class Holiday Optimus Prime

Transformers Generations Leader Class Holiday Optimus Prime

Optimus Prime

Vehicle Mode: This Optimus Prime was originally intended to be the Amazon Optimus Prime truck that has yet to be officially announced. He’s been repurposed as a holiday themed Optimus Prime. The vehicle design is awesome. He is an officially licensed Volvo truck used by Amazon. The details are fantastic, they clearly put a lot of work into this. He actually has a rear window, in which you can see his Matrix. Rarely do we get an Optimus Prime with a rear bed that looks like the rear bed of trailer truck cab. Usually it is his legs with some molding to give the impression of what it is supposed to be. He has lots of paint apps. He is meant to look like a red truck half covered in snow, and they pull it off well. When I first saw pictures of this, I assumed his rearview mirrors would be the usual garbage soft plastic, but they aren’t. His trailer is reused from Earthrise Optimus Prime, as are his weapons.

Robot Mode: This is one of the most unique Optimus Prime toys ever. The front of his cab becomes his legs, while the rear of his cab becomes his chest. In vehicle mode his head sits under his rear bed, and his arms are beneath his cab. In robot mode Optimus Prime looks amazing. I love the green windows.

Overall: It’s hard to call a Christmas theme Optimus Prime a must have, but the mold certainly is. I need this mold in G1 colors and any other colors they want to give us.
