Transformers: Bumblebee: Energon Igniters Speed Series Wave 1 (Barricade, Bumblebee, Hot Rod, Optimus Prime)
Energon Igniters Nitro Series and Energon Igniters Power Plus Series toys come with an Energon Core that can be used to propel Nitro Series, Power Plus Series, Power Series, and Speed Series toys. They also deploy weapons on all but the Speed Series. Energon Cores are interchangeable. Energon Igniters Speed Series are basically Legends toys with the ability to interact with Energon Cores. Consequently, all are new molds. Hasbro seems to have learned something from The Last Knight’s repaintapalooza.
Barricade
Barricade looks fine, though it is annoying that his Energon Igniters port sticks out from his left knee. It would have been nice if it folded in. Disappointingly, they did not use the police badge Decepticon logo. His only difference from Hot Rod is his head sculpt.
Bumblebee (Camaro)
Bumblebee looks great though they failed to paint his side and rear windows. I will give them credit for riveting on his wheels. It is a small thing, but makes for a much better looking toy. I really love his robot mode. They did a pretty great job on this Bumblebee.
Bumblebee (VW)
Bumblebee looks great though they failed to paint his rear window. In robot mode he looks great.
Hot Rod
Hot Rod, like Barricade, has the annoying Energon Igniters port sticking out from his left knee. Other than that he doesn’t look bad.
Optimus Prime
I’m not crazy about his legs being in red, but other than that, I like this Optimus Prime.
Overall: The Energon Igniter feature doesn’t really do much for me. I’d have rather seen the action features built right into the toys. Having said that, they are pretty average for a movie toy line.
