Optimus Prime

Vehicle Mode: He looks great in vehicle mode.  I like the colors and the paint apps are pretty decent, though having said that, he does seem very plain.  They went with the very simple red and blue flames rather than the orange and yellow, which has looked good on so many other versions of Optimus Prime.  Maybe we got spoiled by all the awesome looking chrome from the AOE toys.  Maybe some more silver and less gray would have looked better.  It’s a nice toy, but nothing that wows me in vehicle mode.

Robot Mode: What his robot mode gives up in plainness, his robot mode makes up for.  He looks great.  I love the colors and the silver paint.  The head sculpt is pretty good.

Overall: This is the third Voyager Optimus Prime mold since the first movie came out (I believe).  Yes, we had a new Voyager for Age of Extinction, but that was the square cab, and I’m only talking about his most frequent vehicle mode in the movies.  The Dark of the Moon Voyager Optimus Prime wasn’t great.  The one from the first movie was a good toy, but I think this is probably the best movie Voyager Optimus Prime.

About lmb3

I’m 36 years old, and I work in network tech support for a public school system. I am a huge fan of Star Trek, Transformers, Harry Potter, and Marvel Comics as well as numerous other fandoms. I’m a big sports fan, especially the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. I collect toys (mostly Transformers but other stuff too), comic books, and Red Sox baseball cards. I watch an obscene amount of television and love going to the movies. I am hopelessly addicted to Wizard Rock and I write Harry Potter Fanfiction, though these days I am working on a couple of different original YA novels.
