Transformers: Generations: Combiner Wars Voyager Autobot Sky Lynx

Vehicle Mode: Sky Lynx’s space shuttle mode is pretty great.  It looks very much like the G1, and the colors are perfect.  It does have a couple of issues.  First off, the weapons under his wings make no sense for a space shuttle.  Second, on each side of his vertical stabilizer, there are two small wings at approximately 45 degree angles.  These wings are swept forward (so the are backwards compared to his main wings).  This is so that they are pointing the correct direction when combined.  What they really needed to do was put them on a pivot so they cold be spun around so they are swept back instead of forward.  It’s not terrible, but it just doesn’t look right.

Robot Mode: Like his shuttle mode, his robot mode looks very G1, but suffers from some fairly major defects.  In addition to those small 45 degree wins looking wrong, the blue foldouts on his wings won’t stay in position.  Instead of being on a ratchet so they would click and stay in place, you just have to move them into approximate position.  I hate that.  It also would have looked better if they came out in several connected layers like his G1 wings.  It’s just impossible to get them in the exact same position as it is designed.  The other major problem is that his rear legs are horribly designed.  His blue feet flip out, but it is not a ratcheting joint so no matter what you do his rear legs are walking on his ankles with his feet pointing up in front of them.

Overall: Sky Lynx is not a bad toy, but I think Hasbro needed a little more design work on him.  It’s really small things that could have been fixed, and that is very disappointing for such an anticipated toy.  He is being released in Japan.  I will be very curious to see if they make any changes to the mold to fix these issue.
