Blog #205: Toy Review: Japanese Transformers Prime Voyager Darkness Megatron with Arms Microns Gora 2 and Hades

Japanese Transformers Prime Voyaged Darkness Megatron with Arms Microns Gora 2 and Hades

(Gora 2 is how I’ve seen him listed online.  I’m not sure if that’s his official name or just to note he is the second version of Gora.)

Box:  The boxes for the Voyager toys are the same shape as the US versions, though this one is slightly larger front to back.  All the text and pictures are changed and the colors have been changed from predominantly white to black, purple, and red.  Darkness Megatron has awesome silver chrome on his face, chest, and shoulders, which make him look amazing in the window box.

Kit:  The kits are fairly easy to assemble, and so far the stickers seem to be staying on well.  The plastic is higher quality than the Kabaya kits.  They have no paint apps and are perfect for customizers to paint up for a more elaborate look.  Each Arms Micron includes something like a spark crystal, but I’m not sure if that is the intent of it.  A sticker goes on before the outer translucent plastic to form it.  They look nice, but I had some problems getting the crystal to stay in on some of them.  Might need a little glue.

Weapon Mode:  I like the new Gora weapon mode.  In addition to being larger for use with the Voyager size figure, it is more streamlined, lacking the two blades of the smaller figure.  I also like the lighter purple color as opposed to the dark purple of the original.

Robot Mode:  As with the previous version, the gorilla mode is kind of lousy.

Arms Micron Hades

Kit:  See above for details on the kit.  The only thing unique about this kit is that it contains two trees and they are both in translucent plastic.

Weapon Mode:  Hades is by far the largest Arms Micron yet. He becomes a giant scythe!  Needless to say it’s an awesome looking weapon in translucent purple.  Due to its size and the way he mounts, He can only mount to a Voyager figure with a port on its forearm.  I know Bulkhead has one, not sure who else does off the top of my head.

Robot Mode:  He looks pretty good in bat mode.  My only complaint is that he should have had more stickers.  The translucent purple looks good, but some more details would have been nice.

Backpack Mode:  He can also become a backpack for Megatron.  It should be noted that there is technically a fourth mode, a kind of wing that mounts onto Megatron in vehicle mode (pictured on Megatron below) but I didn’t bother take a picture of it since it looks pretty ridiculous the way it mounts onto Megatron

Vehicle Mode:  Darkness Megatron is, I believe, the first Arms Micron Deluxe or Voyager toy not to have any mold changes.  This is most likely due to it already having the necessary ports, but also means there are no additional ports for weapons.  Kind of cheap if you ask me.  His coloring looks okay, but I would have preferred light gray and silver (G1 Megatron colors) to the black and dark gray.  The chrome looks great though.  I still have a major problem with this mold.  His shoulders do not click into position in vehicle mode, making him very difficult to transform.

Robot Mode:  In robot mode the chrome really makes him stand out.  As with the vehicle mode, I just wish they had gone with a more G1 Megatron color scheme.

Overall:  I’d like to say he’s worth it just for Hades and the chrome, but I’m not sure he is.  He’s awfully expensive.
