Blog #137: Toy Review: Botcon 2012 Tracks

Tracks (or Turbo Tracks if you prefer) is a Botcon 2012 Invasion Box Set Exclusive.

Botcon Universe: Shattered Glass

Mold Used: Transformers 2010 Deluxe Turbo Tracks

Name Origin: Tracks is a G1 Character.

I previously reviewed this toy based on the pictures released on the Botcon web site.  You can read that blog here.

Tracks is awesome.  I think he would have been better looking in black, which would have also been a Diaclone color scheme, but the red looks awesome too.  However, the Diaclone color scheme was red and black, not red and purple, and he loses a few points for that.  It still looks nice, and it’s a really great mold, and he has nicely painted details.

Grade: A-

About lmb3

I’m 36 years old, and I work in network tech support for a public school system. I am a huge fan of Star Trek, Transformers, Harry Potter, and Marvel Comics as well as numerous other fandoms. I’m a big sports fan, especially the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. I collect toys (mostly Transformers but other stuff too), comic books, and Red Sox baseball cards. I watch an obscene amount of television and love going to the movies. I am hopelessly addicted to Wizard Rock and I write Harry Potter Fanfiction, though these days I am working on a couple of different original YA novels.

Maz from Autocon had the answer for me on the red Tracks:

    – Japan Diaclone: Blue launchers, wings and missiles, very very dark blue legs, arms, backpack and long-stock handgun

    – Joustra Diaclone/GiG Trasformer/MB Transformer: Blue launchers, wings and missiles, black legs, arms, backpack and short-stock gun.

So, the MB Transformers version was black, but since they did purple, it’s wrong no matter what they were going for.

Normally, I am fine with new colour schemes on toys. But, Fun Publications normally sticks to straight up homages, meaning that Tracks’ colour do come off as a bit half-assed. (Of course, for Fun Publications, “half-assed” is usually conflated with “creativity”.

One point of information though: I am fairly certain that the old Diaclone toy, (later recoloured as Road Rage), was red and (very dark) blue. The blue often does look black in photos though.
