Blog #518: Toy Review: Transformers Kabaya Models God Master Overlord and Brain Master Road Caesar (Blacker, Laster, and Braver)

Transformers Kabaya Models God Master Overlord and Brain Master Road Caesar (Blacker, Laster, and Braver)

This is probably my favorite series of Kabaya models they have done yet.  Admittedly, Transformers fans not familiar with the Japanese exclusive Generation One toys and characters may not be very interested in these, but I have both the original toys, and they are two of my favorites.  These are larger than the regular size models, like Fortress Maximus was, though not quite that big.

Overlord is awesome.  He is very faithful to the original toy, even including his two Power Master (in Japan they were actually known as God Master) figures.  Really the only negative thing I have to say about this toys is that he doesn’t hold together very well in base mode.  The yellow ramp in front extends below the level on which he rests, so it pops off if you aren’t extremely careful when you set him down.  Similarly, the ramps to the sides, don’t quite want to stay attached either to the main part of the city or to the two outer parts.  This just needed a little more engineering.

Wow, they did an amazing job on these guys.  They are extremely faithful to the toys.  Obviously the “Brain Master” function does not actually work, but they do have a small removable figure in their chests.  They have plenty of sticker details.  My only issue is that they don’t come with their own individual swords that combine into a larger sword, they just come with a single sword for Road Caesar.  Still, that’s a minor thing.

What can I say?  He’s fantastic.

I hope they continue to do the Japanese exclusives as Kabaya kits.  I would love to see Liokaiser, Dinoking, and Raiden (if they don’t screw the up like the did the Gaia Scramble).  Starscream, Deathsaurus, Overlord, Menasor, and Onslaught are the only Decepticons  (not including the Gaia Scramble assortment) that they’ve done in this series.  How about a wave of Browning, Megatron, and Galvatron?

Thanks for reading!

About lmb3

I’m 36 years old, and I work in network tech support for a public school system. I am a huge fan of Star Trek, Transformers, Harry Potter, and Marvel Comics as well as numerous other fandoms. I’m a big sports fan, especially the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. I collect toys (mostly Transformers but other stuff too), comic books, and Red Sox baseball cards. I watch an obscene amount of television and love going to the movies. I am hopelessly addicted to Wizard Rock and I write Harry Potter Fanfiction, though these days I am working on a couple of different original YA novels.
