Blog #3028: Toy Review: Transformers: Generations Hasbro Labs Titan Class Liokaiser (Deathcobra, Drillhorn, Gaihawk, Ellbat, Jaruga, Killbison, Leozack)

Transformers: Generations Hasbro Labs Titan Class Liokaiser (Deadthcobra, Drillhorn, Gaihawk, Ellbat, Jaruga, Killbison, Leozack)

Cobra Chest Animal

Cobra Chest Animal (yes it seems Hasbro actually lacks the imagination to have come up with anything better to call them) looks pretty great. Unfortunately, in weapon mode nothing tabs into place or is ratcheted. So the two parts of the gun barrel don’t stay in place. Terrible design.

Deathcobra

Vehicle Mode: Since Hasbro has still never bothered to dub the Japanese Transformers series into English, I have no idea why I should care about Deathcobra. He was not part of the original toy. Having said that I mostly like his helicopter mode, but his legs are juts sticking out under the fuselage. It would have been nice if they folded in better. So the top of the copter looks great, but is set up on a brick formed by his legs. Paint apps look great. I love the chin gun.

Robot Mode: In robot mode Deathcobra looks great. His head sculpt is awesome. Paint apps are great. He’s very nicely done overall. Just wish I had a reason to care about him. The set comes with six spears. I forgot about them so I don’t have pics of them with the others. It’s unfortunate that it only comes with six since there are seven members of the team.

Rhino Chest Animal

Rhino Chest Animal is the victim of some more poor design. His gun barrel (if you can all it that, it’s son tiny it’s like the Trump penis of gun barrels) does not lock in place. Also, his legs are on ball joints, which is awful design. It’s not like they have any great range of motion with the ball joints, but it’s near impossible to get his legs all lined up straight. I understand the use of ball joints, but in this case, it adds nothing about a lot of annoyance. The legs could have just as easily been on pegs that rotate.

Drillhorn

Vehicle Mode: Drillhorn looks great in vehicle mode. I love the silver paint on his drill. Not a lot of paint apps, but that’s okay.

Robot Mode: Drillhorn has a great head sculpt, but that’s the only nice thing I have to say about his robot mode. When Hasbro does a new version of an old toy, I really wish some thought would be put into hot to actually make the toy better, rather than recreating terrible design elements from the original. The original Drillhorn has a gaping hole in the chest when his partner is not attached. This is even worse on this version. Rather than a chest you are attaching the partner to, he essentially has no chest, and thus looks like crap without his partner attached. I wish they had put some thought into the design to address this, but it seems that would have been asking too much. He looks great with his partner attached, but that gives him no weapon.

Bat Chest Animal

Again, the gun barrel does not lock into position. Otherwise Bat Chest Animal looks great.

Ellbat

Vehicle Mode: Ellbat? El Bat? Whatever. Apparently, Hellbat is now Spanish. Ellbat’s jet mode looks great. Paint apps are sufficient. All three jets have their partner in chest mode on the bottom of the fuselage. While not in the instructions, you can turn the gun around 90 degrees and flip out the barrel.

Robot Mode: In robot mode Ellbat has a great head sculpt. Unlike Drillhorn, Ellbat looks fine without his chest attached. This is true of all three jets.

Hawk Chest Animal

Hawk Chest Animal does not have a flip out barrel, so he’s one of the better partners.

Gaihawk

Vehicle Mode: Much like Ellbat, Gaihawk has a great vehicle mode with minimal paint apps. Still looks great.

Robot Mode: Gaihawk looks great in robot mode. I love his head sculpt.

Jaguar Chest Animal

Jaguar Chest Animal has the same problems of the others, ball jointed legs and no locking barrel.

Jaruga

Vehicle Mode: Jaruga literally has Liokaiser’s ass sitting on top of his vehicle mode. He is easily the worst of all the vehicle modes.

Robot Mode: Like Drillhorn, in robot mode Jaruga has a big hole in his chest, but he does not look anywhere near as bad as Drillhorn. Still, he could be better. What he should have had is a spring-loaded plate to fill in his chest when the partner was not attached. He does look great with his partner attached though. I really like his head sculpt.

Bull Chest Animal

Read my notes on Jaguar Chest Animal above. Bull Chest Animal has the same issues.

Killbison

Vehicle Mode: Killbison is probably the weakest of all the vehicle modes. The turret is fine, but the base doesn’t even look like a tank, other than the treads. It’s basically a misshapen box.

Robot Mode: Killbison has the same awful chest design as Drillhorn. Head sculpt looks great though.

Lion Chest Animal

Read my notes on Jaguar Chest Animal above. Lion Chest Animal has the same issues.

Leozack

Vehicle Mode: Leozack’s jet mode suffers from a huge chunk hanging off the back. Otherwise it’s not bad.

Robot Mode: Leozack looks fine without his partner attached. I love his head sculpt. He could have used a few more paint apps.

Liokaiser

Liokaiser is AWESOME! What more could you ask for? He’s absolutely perfect. I will say that Deathcobra’s shoulder gun mode is pretty blah. The gun is just his partner, so it’s tiny added onto him on Liokaiser’s shoulder. I was just expecting more from his gun mode than a helicopter with a little gun tabbed on. His weapon is cool, but the star pieces just slide onto the spears and don’t have a set position, so it’s a pain to get them lined up.

Overall: Whatever Liokaiser’s component members may lack in design, when combined, he is perfect.

Thanks for reading!
