Transformers Masterpiece Godbomber (MPG-14) and God Ginrai (MPG-14S)
Accessories
Godbomber comes with blast effects, and parts to connect to stands as well as figures of Cab, Minerva, and Shuta Go.
Godbomber
Vehicle Mode: Godbomber looks amazing in vehicle mode. They did an amazing job on him. He’s perfectly painted and the chrome looks great. The original toy has his rocket boosters pointed forwards, which never looked right, though that is the way he is meant to look. This version’s can rotate around to look more logical if you prefer. Not sure if there was any reason for this from the animation.
Robot Mode: Godbomber looks perfect in robot mode. He has a great head sculpt and tons of molded details
Vehicle Mode with Prototype Parts: Here is where Godbomber really shines. He comes with a set of parts to make him look like the unreleased prototype version of the toy. He has a pair of shields on the sides of his vehicle mode and his missile launcher has been converted into a giant cannon.
Robot Mode with Prototype Parts: In robot mode the prototype changes are even more pronounced. He has a different a completely new head and chest. He also comes with a gun and sword in addition to his shoulder cannon. All credit to the designer for this one. Stellar work.
Read my review of Fans Hobby God Armor.
Compared to Fans Hobby God Armor: Third party companies often trounce Hasbro and Takara in design, but that is not the case here. Hasbro’s Godbomber is vastly superior to Fans Hobby God Armor. In vehicle mode God Armor has some nice detail the MP version does not, the fenders over his wheels and the fancier twin gun turrets on his roof. But in robot mode there is no comparison. Fans Hobby God Armor just doesn’t look as good. It almost looks like he was a design afterthought to go with Power Baser. He just looks almost like a knockoff.
God Ginrai
When combined, God Ginrai looks fantastic. His head seems a little small, but that’s not a major thing. Also, the dual cannons on his ankles are there, but they are really small. Would have been nicer if those were bigger.
God Ginrai with Prototype Parts
But God Ginrai looks even better with Godbomber’s prototype parts added. I really like the look of the shoulder shields. It’s a small thing, but he’s very tall and thin, and these make him look a bit better proportioned. In addition to Godbomber’s shoulder cannon, sword, and gun, the prototype photos showed Ginrai’s smaller guns plugged into his forearms, which this version can also do. He’s just packed with guns.
Compared to Power Baser with God Armor
As to a comparison with Power Base with God Armor, I am going to quote my review of Masterpiece Ginrai, “The Masterpiece looks more like the G1 toy, while Power Baser looks better than the G1 toy. I don’t have a picture in scale, but Power Baser is a little bit taller than the Masterpiece and he just looks more detailed and more badass.” I can’t add anything to that.
Overall: If you are going to get one or the other, I still say Power Baser with God Armor is overall a better-looking toy. However, if you want one that is more G1 toy accurate, then the Masterpiece is the one you want. The one big thing the Masterpiece has going for it is Godbomber’s look in robot mode, and his prototype parts.
