Blog #2314: Toy Review: Transformers: EarthSpark 1-Step Flip Changer Wave 1 (Bumblebee, Optimus Prime, Wheeljack)

Transformers: EarthSpark 1-Step Flip Changer Wave 1 (Bumblebee, Optimus Prime, Wheeljack)

Bumblebee

If I remember correctly, and it’s possible I don’t, the first Transformers One Step Changers debuted with Transformer Age of Extinction. After nearly a decade, Hasbro seems to have finally gotten it right. My big complaint about One Step Changers (or One Step Flip Changers, as they are now calling them) is that they don’t actually transform in one step, and even if they do in one direction, they don’t in the other. Well, it seems Hasbro has finally figured it out, because all of these do transform in one step. And even more than that, they are spring loaded and snap back to vehicle mode with the push of a button, which is very cool. Bumblebee looks pretty good in vehicle mode. He could certainly use more paint apps, but I think he has just enough to be passable. In robot mode Bumblebee looks great. I like the head sculpt. Paint apps are acceptable, but they really needed to paint his thighs black.

Optimus Prime

In vehicle mode Optimus Prime looks great. Paint apps are good, no big gaps in his vehicle mode, really nicely designed. In robot mode he could have used a few more paint apps especially on his fists and thighs, but he looks pretty good otherwise.

Wheeljack

Wheeljack needed a few more paint apps on the rear half of his vehicle mode, but the design is otherwise great. In robot mode he needed more paint apps, especially on his chest. I’m not crazy about his head sculpt.

Overall: Since they actually transform in one step, I would have to say these are some of the best designed One Step Changers. Still nothing to write home about. For completists only.

I’m 36 years old, and I work in network tech support for a public school system. I am a huge fan of Star Trek, Transformers, Harry Potter, and Marvel Comics as well as numerous other fandoms. I’m a big sports fan, especially the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. I collect toys (mostly Transformers but other stuff too), comic books, and Red Sox baseball cards. I watch an obscene amount of television and love going to the movies. I am hopelessly addicted to Wizard Rock and I write Harry Potter Fanfiction, though these days I am working on a couple of different original YA novels.
