Blog #1988: Toy Review: Transformers: The Movie: Studio Series Voyager Class Scourge

Transformers: The Movie: Studio Series Voyager Class Scourge

The Transformers: The Movie Studio Series toys are clearly meant to be part of the third part of the War For Cybertron Trilogy. Presumably Hasbro decided to put them in Studio Series so they could shoehorn Beast Wars in rather than doing a separate line for the 25th anniversary of Beast Wars. If they couldn’t give Beast Wars it’s own line, including an additional wave in the Kingdom line would have made more sense.

Scourge

Vehicle Mode: Scourge is perfect in vehicle mode. Everything pegs together tightly, his colors are perfect. There is not much to say beyond perfect.

Robot Mode: In robot mode Scourge is almost perfect. He looks amazing, right down to his creepy pink fingers, but the two halves of his hull hanging off his back don’t look right, and neither do his wings. These are not fatal flaws. They have to go somewhere. It would have been nice if the lower wings had an additional panel that pulled out at the top to make the wings look more complete and cover the upper pieces of his hull. The only other issue boils down to incompetence on Hasbro’s part. His right fist port is too big to hold his weapon. His left fist is fine.

Overall: Scourge is well worth $30, and it seems unlikely we’ll ever get a better version of Scourge.

About lmb3

I’m 36 years old, and I work in network tech support for a public school system. I am a huge fan of Star Trek, Transformers, Harry Potter, and Marvel Comics as well as numerous other fandoms. I’m a big sports fan, especially the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. I collect toys (mostly Transformers but other stuff too), comic books, and Red Sox baseball cards. I watch an obscene amount of television and love going to the movies. I am hopelessly addicted to Wizard Rock and I write Harry Potter Fanfiction, though these days I am working on a couple of different original YA novels.
