Transformers: Studio Series Deluxe Constructicon Hightower
Devastator is combined from eight Constructicons (nine if you include Skipjack, AKA yellow Rampage). Read my reviews of Deluxe Class Hightower, Deluxe Class Scrapmetal, Voyager Class Long Haul, Voyager Class Mixmaster, Voyager Class Rampage, Voyager Class Scrapper, Voyager Class Skipjack, Leader Class Overload, Leader Class Scavenger, and Combiner Devastator.
Hightower
Vehicle Mode: Hightower’s crane design is great, and the colors are great. The only problem is that this type of crane should have cables that run from a winch at the back of the vehicle up to the top of the gantry (the piece sticking up and back, I think that’s what its called), and then up to the top of the boom (again, I think that’s what it’s called.) I could forgive the lack of cables, but for this.
The Revenge of the Fallen Legends Class Hightower actually had those cables. They were just plastic bars, not actual cables, but still, they somehow managed to design that into the Legends Class toy. Too bad Hasbro couldn’t be bothered to do that for the Studio Series toy. With that exception his vehicle mode looks great. Unfortunately, he transforms.
Robot Mode: WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? Hasbro is now apparently designing Transformers while on serious acid. Probably on a few other things too. This thing just looks ridiculous. There are two different pieces of concept art for him, both of which can be seen on TFWiki. The one at the top of the page is what this abomination is based on. The one on the bottom of the page isn’t quite so bad. It’s the same leg design, but he had actually arms, one with a claw at the end and the other a wrecking ball. At least that one had useful arms.
Overall: His robot mode is crap, but what matters is that he is necessary to form Devastator, so he is an absolute must.
