Transformers: Energon (Superlink) Deluxe Fire SL Grand Convoy

Optimus Prime

I’ve never reviewed this mold before. Fire SL Grand Convoy is a repaint of the Energon (Superlink in Japan) Deluxe Optimus Prime (Convoy in Japan), which was first available in Japan, and then released in the USA as a Toys R Us Exclusive in a two-pack with the Japanese Voyager Class Megatron. I’ve always had mixed feelings about Energon Optimus Prime. In robot mode it just doesn’t look like an Optimus Prime. It’s got windows in his chest, and an Optimus Prime head, but if you put this design beside almost any other Optimus Prime, it just looks out of place. Having said that, I don’t dislike the toy, and I love this fire version in red, orange, and gold chrome. My one major complaint is that he has a big beefy robot mode, and his head seems tiny.

About lmb3

I’m 36 years old, and I work in network tech support for a public school system. I am a huge fan of Star Trek, Transformers, Harry Potter, and Marvel Comics as well as numerous other fandoms. I’m a big sports fan, especially the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. I collect toys (mostly Transformers but other stuff too), comic books, and Red Sox baseball cards. I watch an obscene amount of television and love going to the movies. I am hopelessly addicted to Wizard Rock and I write Harry Potter Fanfiction, though these days I am working on a couple of different original YA novels.
