Blog #1642: Toy Review: Transformers: Rescue Bots Academy Wave 1 (Medix & Whirl)

Transformers: Rescue Bots Academy Wave 1 (Medix & Whirl)

I’m not sure what to call these. They are a new size class of toy, though it has no name, thanks Hasbro. Many Rescue Bots Academy toys are also appearing in the original Rescue Bots Rescan Series line, though with Rescue Bots Academy package designs. Those toys are smaller and completely out of scale with these two. It remains to be seen if these are just a whole new price point, or if we will only get out of scale versions of these toys. Given Hasbro’s haphazard approach to the Rescue Bots line in the past, your guess is as good as mine.

Medix

Medix is extremely average. Vehicle mode looks fine, but his robot mode could have used a few more paint apps on his legs. Head sculpt is fine. He’s just…okay.

Whirl

Whirl on the other hand is pretty awesome. I just wish the nose of the helicopter folded down on her back. That would make her more animation accurate. She looks great though. I love her police helicopter mode. Really great design.

Overall: Medix is fine, but Whirl is awesome.

About lmb3

I’m 36 years old, and I work in network tech support for a public school system. I am a huge fan of Star Trek, Transformers, Harry Potter, and Marvel Comics as well as numerous other fandoms. I’m a big sports fan, especially the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. I collect toys (mostly Transformers but other stuff too), comic books, and Red Sox baseball cards. I watch an obscene amount of television and love going to the movies. I am hopelessly addicted to Wizard Rock and I write Harry Potter Fanfiction, though these days I am working on a couple of different original YA novels.
