Guest Columnist: Fred’s Workshop: A Love Letter to G1
What is it about our Mass consumerism these days, that doesn’t allow us to savor a toy? We buy it, throw it on a shelf or in a box, then relentlessly pursue the next prize. That’s a hole with no bottom, folks.
I’m going to do it old school. Here’s a toy from far enough back in the day that I can enjoy. Since it’s a slightly newer version, people aren’t going to lose their s*** over me unsealing and unboxing it.
I am going to admire each individual component. I’m going to put it together. I’m going to savor it. I’m going to transform it. I’m going to take pictures of it. Then I’m going to put it away for a couple of days, because it’s Labor Day.
Then I’m going to come back to it, and Savor taking it out of the package again! And I am going to sticker the hell out of it. Then I’m going to go vroom vroom on the table and roll the wheels across that, marveling at the smoothness and the heavy diecast Construction. I may leave marks on the table.
Then I’m going to share the pictures on Facebook. Because that’s what all the Hep new kids are doing these days.
This isn’t a review. This is a love letter. G1 forever!
Thanks for reading!
Sounds like that guy is jealous of the candy bar, Armchair Warrior.
They told him there was a candy bar for him when he was done.
This is great! I’ve been following Fred for years. How’d you get him to guest?!
