I picked up Transformers Prime Voyager Bulkhead this week. I was prepared for the disappointment since the pictures came online after Toy Fair and showed it to be inferior in every way to the First Edition version. Having it in hand doesn’t help.
Transformers Prime Voyager Bulkhead
Vehicle Mode: The sad part is, that it’s not really a bad toy, just completely inferior to the First Edition Bulkhead. Bumpers, taillights, headlights, and running board are all painted. Side windows are painted green, no actual windows. The only really bad thing is that his weapon looks totally stupid on his roof. Mounting a gun on the roof is one thing, but this thing doesn’t even extend out over the hood. It’s just ridiculous. Most of the Dark of the Moon MechTech Weapons that are blades at least extend out over the vehicle hood.
Robot Mode: Robot mode isn’t very show accurate, but it’s not too bad. It would have been nicer if they had painted his jaw silver. He doesn’t seem to have Bulkhead’s upper body bulk.
Comparison to First Edition Version: There is absolutely nothing about the Transformers Prime Bulkhead that is better than the First Edition Bulkhead. FE is larger and has a more bulky robot mode. It has a better head sculpt and a more show accurate weapon that admittedly stores out in the open, but makes no pretense about being usable in vehicle mode. It’s got better paint apps and a better transformation. Click here to read my review of the First Edition Bulkhead.
