Blog #2857: Toy Review: Transformers Masterpiece Trainbot Ginou and Yamabuki

Transformers Masterpiece Trainbot Ginou and Yambuki

When Ginou was announced I assumed we were doomed to a second full set of Trainbots. I know next to nothing about fiction involving the Trainbots as the Japanese G1 animated series have never been dubbed into English, something that is long overdue. Anyway, I now understand that these two actually did forma different version of Raiden called “Raiden Special Formation Shiden”. I have no intention of dissembling Raiden to put that together, so promo photos of him combined are below.

Ginou

Previous Mold Use: Masterpiece Trainbot Shouki

Ginou has been pre-yellowed for your convenience. No, he is supposed to be that color. If you look at his windows and roof you can see his train mode has been significantly remolded. He has actually been changed into a different model train. That’s an extensive remold for a repaint. He comes with a new accessory that becomes Raiden Special Formation Shiden’s new head. I really like this new head. Almost makes me wish they were releasing a whole new set. In robot mode he has a new head.

Yamabuki

Previous mold Use: Masterpiece Trainbot Yukikaze

Like Ginou, Yamabuki also has a remolded vehicle mode and a new head.

Raiden Special Formation Shiden

In combined mode Raiden Special Formation Shiden has a new head and chest and yellow left leg.

Overall: These toys can’t possibly be must haves, but they are cool. Perhaps someday Hasbro will dub the G1 Japanese cartoons and I’ll care more about them.

Thanks for reading!

I’m 36 years old, and I work in network tech support for a public school system. I am a huge fan of Star Trek, Transformers, Harry Potter, and Marvel Comics as well as numerous other fandoms. I’m a big sports fan, especially the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. I collect toys (mostly Transformers but other stuff too), comic books, and Red Sox baseball cards. I watch an obscene amount of television and love going to the movies. I am hopelessly addicted to Wizard Rock and I write Harry Potter Fanfiction, though these days I am working on a couple of different original YA novels.
