Zeta Toys Whirlwind (Transformers Generation One Combaticon Vortex)
Whirlwind (G1 Vortex)
Vehicle Mode: Vortex looks awesome! He is not the same kind of helicopter as the G1 toy, and I do miss the chin gun, but he really looks sharp with all that metallic silver paint. I love the six blade rotor. You may notice one of his engines is missing. More on that below.
Robot Mode: Vortex looks fantastic in robot mode. He does not have a lot of paint apps, but I think he has just enough. He has a great head sculpt. His forearms are a little chunky, but that’s not a major thing.
Breakage: One of his engines broke off while I was transforming him. Sadly, this is a design flaw. The engine has a hollow beg that goes inside the port and is riveted in place. Unfortunately, rather than using a longer rivet, this leaves a short metal peg ad then an empty plastic tube to bear the torque of rotating the engine. Had that metal rivet extended through the whole tube with would have been much stronger and less likely to break. Honestly, I think it may have been cracked before I even touched it as I was being very gentle with it and the other side did not break. This isn’t a reason not to buy it, just be very careful.
Overall: Vortex is an awesome toy. This set is a truly Masterpiece scale combiner and comes with a price tag to match. I highly recommend him, but it will cost you.
