Blog #2733: Toy Review: Transformers: Rise of the Beasts Smash Changers Rhinox

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts Smash Changers Rhinox

Rhinox

Beast Mode: Rhinox looks like a box with legs and a head. Beast mode is just not good, though I do really like his rhino head sculpt. The brown on his legs doesn’t look great.

Robot Mode: Hasbro has done a lot of gimmick toys, and often those gimmicks don’t work very well. (Like all the One Step Changers that take more than one step to transform.) This is a rare case where the gimmick is actually pretty great. You grab onto his hips in beast mode, and hit (smash), him down hard on his feet three times, and he is fully in robot mode. Each smash activates one of the steps. I was not expecting to like it, but it works really well. Having said that, his robot mode is, at best, okay. They should have just gone with gray. The brown does nothing for his robot mode.

Overall: This is a really fun toy to transform. Hasbro gets an A+ for design on this. It is not worth having for the look of the toy, but might be for the engineering.

About lmb3

I’m 36 years old, and I work in network tech support for a public school system. I am a huge fan of Star Trek, Transformers, Harry Potter, and Marvel Comics as well as numerous other fandoms. I’m a big sports fan, especially the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. I collect toys (mostly Transformers but other stuff too), comic books, and Red Sox baseball cards. I watch an obscene amount of television and love going to the movies. I am hopelessly addicted to Wizard Rock and I write Harry Potter Fanfiction, though these days I am working on a couple of different original YA novels.
