Blog #2726: Toy Review: Transformers: Rise of the Beasts Command and Convert Optimus Primal

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts Command and Convert Optimus Primal

Optimus Primal

Beast Mode: Optimus Primal looks very cool in beast mode. He has lots of molded details. I like the silver paint, but I think he could have used some more.

Robot Mode: In robot mode he looks pretty good, but he is hampered by his auto transformation.

Auto Transformation Features: Watching this toy transform itself is really cool. However, there is a major flaw with this toy. It’s called “Command and Convert” Optimus Primal. The name is false advertising. I assumed it came with a list of commands to make it do the various things it can do. That name suggests that. If it were called “Sound Activated and Convert”, I would expect it just reacts to sound, which is what it does. There is no command to tell him to transform. It just does so randomly when it detects sound. It’s frankly worthless if it can’t transform when you want it to. Now, there is a button on his back to make him transform, which is find, but he’s not called “Push Button and Convert” either.

Overall: Excellent engineering, but for the auto transform to make sense it has to take commands and it does not.

About lmb3

I’m 36 years old, and I work in network tech support for a public school system. I am a huge fan of Star Trek, Transformers, Harry Potter, and Marvel Comics as well as numerous other fandoms. I’m a big sports fan, especially the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. I collect toys (mostly Transformers but other stuff too), comic books, and Red Sox baseball cards. I watch an obscene amount of television and love going to the movies. I am hopelessly addicted to Wizard Rock and I write Harry Potter Fanfiction, though these days I am working on a couple of different original YA novels.
