Blog #2708: Toy Review: Planet X Triton (Transformers G1 Dinobot Paddles)

Planet X Triton (Transformers G1 Dinobot Paddles)

Paddles (Triton)

Dinosaur Mode: I listed him above as a G1 Dinobot. That is not technically accurate. Triton was introduced in later fiction and video games, but is meant to be the sixth G1 Dinobot. I will not be referring to him by the name Paddles because it’s a stupid name that does not fit, in my opinion, with the other G1 Dinobots, so I will refer to him as Triton. Triton is absolutely awesome in Elasmosaurus mode. He’s perfect. Now there is a minor design issue with his tail. The two halves are extremely hard to get completely closed. In the pic you can see there is a slight gap where his tail meets his body. Still, that’s not enough for me to call him anything less than awesome. I love the way his giant guns mount on his rear flippers.

Robot Mode: Triton is just perfect in robot mode. I love his head sculpt, and his colors are perfect. He’d fit right in with the other Dinobots. In addition to his giant guns his tail becomes a weapon and he has two swords (they are kind of short for swords, so maybe knives would be more accurate).

Overall: I really wanted this toy once I found out he existed. While I grant it almost certainly does not exist, I’ve always been fascinated by the stories of the Loch Ness Monster, and I had to have a transforming Nessie. But I had a hell of a hard time finding one. I had a search on eBay for years without finding one. None of the major online sellers had one. He was released some years before I even started looking. I finally found one via Google from a store I’d never heard of in Taiwan. I took a chance and was thrilled to get him. So I cannot highly recommend him enough, but if you want one you may have a hell of a time finding one.

Thanks for reading!
