Blog #2688: Toy Review: Ocular Max Stellarus Prominion (Transformers G1 Star Convoy)

Ocular Max Stellarus Prominion (Transformers G1 Star Convoy)

Star Convoy

Vehicle Mode: Star Convoy looks pretty great in vehicle mode. I have a couple of issues with him but they are not major. First off, they gave him rubber wheels and treads, which is great, but the treads are non functional. There are wheels on the bottom. Seems like a waste to give him a rubber tread that is just for show. Also, he looks like he is a cab and trailer, which he really isn’t supposed to be. He does not come apart. It’s just the way he is designed that gives him that look. Still those issues aside he is impressive.

Robot Mode: You’ll notice in the pics that the silver and black box around his headlights is missing on the left side. I found it on the floor after taking the pics. Mine was not glued on. Easy fix with a dab of glue, but very annoying. I saw a couple of reviews that said he had issues with his knees not locking and his windshield not being glued in. I did not notice either problem in mine, though those reviews were several years old, and I think this might be a reissue that has fixed those issues. I’m not certain. All of that aside, he looks awesome, a million times better than Hasbro’s Siege leader class version. His paint apps are perfect and he had an excellent head sculpt.

Overall: At only $140, he feels like a bargain for a big toy like this. I can’t recommend him enough, though you might want to hold out for Hasbro’s Titan Class Star Convoy. Even if you don’t want to buy that one, I’m thinking you might find a few of this toy used on eBay after that comes out.

Thanks for reading!

I’m a big sports fan, especially the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. I collect toys (mostly Transformers but other stuff too), comic books, and Red Sox baseball cards. I watch an obscene amount of television and love going to the movies. I am hopelessly addicted to Wizard Rock and I write Harry Potter Fanfiction, though these days I am working on a couple of different original YA novels.
