Transformers Masterpiece Trainbot Kaen
Kaen
Vehicle Mode: Kaen looks amazing in train mode. He is easily my favorite vehicle mode from the whole set. Paint apps are perfect, and he has great details, like the molding on his undercarriage and railings. He is based on a JNR Class DE10 locomotive as was the original toy, but the original toy bears, at least to me, almost no resemblance to a JNR Class DE10 locomotive. Even looking at it as a simplified version, it isn’t even close in my opinion. The other Masterpiece Trainbots, who now have train modes based on their real world counterparts, are still recognizable. If you put the G1 Kaen and this one next to each other, I would not think they were meant to be the same engine. In fact, I thought they changed the train he’s based on until I looked it up. I’m not saying this is a bad thing. I always thought the original was really weird looking compared to the others, so Kaen strays the most from the G1 design, but I think he is the better for it.
Robot Mode: Kaen looks great in robot mode. His head sculpt is really great. He has a fairly significant chunk of train on his back. I am not sure I actually have him correctly in robot mode. I don’t think his legs are right, I think he’s supposed to be a little taller, but his legs have so damn many joints and the instructions suck, so I finally gave up. For reason I can only assume have to do with the animation, he comes with a yellow laded light saber.
Overall: If you love G1 Japanese toys as much as I do, Seizan is an absolute must have.
