Blog #2651: Toy Review: Moon Studios Dark Night (Transformers G1 Getsuei)

Moon Studios Dark Night (Transformers G1 Getsuei)

Getsuei

Vehicle Mode: In train mode Getsuei looks great. Not a bit of kibble on him. The molded detail is stunning, but there is something missing. The original toy failed to include pantographs on the roof. Those are the metal apparatus that would connect to the electric wires above the train to provide power. So not including them is toy accurate, but it always bothered me that the original toy didn’t have them. It would be like a car without the wheels. Though come to think of it, I think Hasbro’s done that too.

Robot Mode: In robot mode Getsuei has a great head sculpt. He really looks fantastic, but I wish he had a few more paint apps. He’s very blue.

Overall: Getsuei is absolutely gorgeous in both modes and, while a challenge to transform, is a lot easier to transform than the Masterpiece version. While Takara went for real world accuracy in vehicle mode, Moon Studios were more faithful to the toys and animation. I highly recommend him and prefer him to the Masterpiece version.

About lmb3

I’m 36 years old, and I work in network tech support for a public school system. I am a huge fan of Star Trek, Transformers, Harry Potter, and Marvel Comics as well as numerous other fandoms. I’m a big sports fan, especially the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. I collect toys (mostly Transformers but other stuff too), comic books, and Red Sox baseball cards. I watch an obscene amount of television and love going to the movies. I am hopelessly addicted to Wizard Rock and I write Harry Potter Fanfiction, though these days I am working on a couple of different original YA novels.
