Blog #2532: Toy Review: Transformers: Legacy Evolution Commander Class Optimus Prime (Armada)

Transformers: Legacy Evolution Commander Class Optimus Prime (Armada)

Optimus Prime

Vehicle Mode: Optimus Prime’s cab is great, but the trailer has issues. It’s got these big blue boxes sticking out on the sides. It’s twice the width of the rest of the trailer. In fairness, that is what the original toy’s trailer looked like. It was stupid then too.

Base Mode: Like most Transformers bases, it’s lousy.

Robot Mode: Optimus Prime’s robot mode is fantastic. His chest opens to reveal a Matrix, but it isn’t a very good one. It also can’t be held properly in his solid fists. His arm cannons can be clipped onto the sides of his rifle. He has great paint apps.

Super Robot Mode: When combined with the Trailer, Optimus Prime looks very G1, which is, to be clear, a massive compliment. I never particularly like this Optimus Prime head, but it looks how it’s supposed to.

Overall: This is a very good toy, but the original’s auto transformation feature, as fluky as it was, is what really made it special. I’m not sure this one is that big an improvement over the original.

About lmb3

I’m 36 years old, and I work in network tech support for a public school system. I am a huge fan of Star Trek, Transformers, Harry Potter, and Marvel Comics as well as numerous other fandoms. I’m a big sports fan, especially the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. I collect toys (mostly Transformers but other stuff too), comic books, and Red Sox baseball cards. I watch an obscene amount of television and love going to the movies. I am hopelessly addicted to Wizard Rock and I write Harry Potter Fanfiction, though these days I am working on a couple of different original YA novels.
