Blog #2510: Toy Review: Transformers Generation One Headmaster Minerva

Transformers Generation One Headmaster Minerva

“Only the worthy find the grail.” – Robert Langdon, The Da Vinci Code

Yes, I know. I’ve used that quote before, and Primus willing, I will be using it again. “Worthy” is overstating it, but when you’ve acquired one of the Holy Grails on your want list I think you’re entitled to be a little dramatic. Without further ado, behold…

Minerva is the first female Transformers toy. Repainted from Nightbeat, she is supposed to be an ambulance, but being a Porsche 959, she’s not like any ambulance I’ve ever seen. She is one of the rarest and most sought after G1 toys, hard to find in good condition because her white plastic tends to yellow.

As a Junior Headmaster her head is smaller than the first wave of Headmasters and a much simpler design. She has the same face as Nightbeat. Technically the Headmaster is Minerva, with the large body being a non-sentient Transtector. I much prefer the way The Rebirth handled Headmasters to how they were handled in Japan.

Vehicle Mode: In a stunning move, Takara actually painted all her windows! Hasbro has gotten better about that in recent years, but it’s hard not to mention. Cleverly, they pained the outer parts of the hinges on her roof red to look like she had a light bar.

Robot Mode: She’s absolutely gorgeous in robot mode. She has just enough stickers and paint apps. I’ve always like the Junior Headmaster heads using the two small guns as antennas.

Overall: This has been one of the most wanted toys on my want list for a long time. Happy to finally cross her off the list.

Thanks for reading!

I’m 36 years old, and I work in network tech support for a public school system. I am a huge fan of Star Trek, Transformers, Harry Potter, and Marvel Comics as well as numerous other fandoms. I’m a big sports fan, especially the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. I collect toys (mostly Transformers but other stuff too), comic books, and Red Sox baseball cards. I watch an obscene amount of television and love going to the movies. I am hopelessly addicted to Wizard Rock and I write Harry Potter Fanfiction, though these days I am working on a couple of different original YA novels.
