Transformers Artifact of the Week: Transformers Television Series Production Film Samples

In the interest of transparency, I’m calling these “Television Series Production Film Samples,” but I’m just guessing. I mean, they are obviously pieces of film, but what their purpose was, that I’m speculating on.

If you read my blog, Blog #2502: Transformers Artifact of the Week: Transformers Generation One Second Season Affiliate Promotional Folder, you’ll recall I said there was another item I the folder. That is the envelope pictured above. It’s got the Marvel Productions, Ltd. logo with Spider-Man on it, and the name Bryce Malek hand written on it in red ink. I don’t think this envelope actually went with the folder, though it might have, I can’t be sure. Inside were these pieces of film.

What I know is that Bryce Malek was a writer and story editor on the first two seasons of the Transformers animated series. As the envelope has the Marvel Productions logo, I assume this was something official to do with production of the series, and the film seems to be sections of reel to reel film showing scenes from the series. So what are they for? Were they samples sent to him for approval? There are a couple of cells scribbled out with silver ink. Now, I speculate that envelope wasn’t part of the folder, but there is one thing that makes me wonder if I’m wrong about that.

This photo was included in the folder, and I assume it was just included to show the animation for the series, but this scene is on one of the film strips. So were these samples to pick a frame from to include in the folder? Was this folder a sample of the folder that was to be sent out? Who knows?

If you have any information about these, please leave a note in the comments.

As always, you can find over 22,000 Transformers artifacts from every Transformers series and generation at TFMuseum.com.

Thanks for reading!

About lmb3

I’m 36 years old, and I work in network tech support for a public school system. I am a huge fan of Star Trek, Transformers, Harry Potter, and Marvel Comics as well as numerous other fandoms. I’m a big sports fan, especially the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. I collect toys (mostly Transformers but other stuff too), comic books, and Red Sox baseball cards. I watch an obscene amount of television and love going to the movies. I am hopelessly addicted to Wizard Rock and I write Harry Potter Fanfiction, though these days I am working on a couple of different original YA novels.
